Dempsey and Makepeace

The 1980’s were a great time for Television in the UK, with only 4 channels to choose from, the Television Companies had vast amounts of money to make great Television. Dempsey and Makepeace was one of the those great Television programmes that blasted onto our screens in the middle of the 80’s. Starring Michael Brandon and Glynis Barber, the show took Cop Shows to a next level. No holds barred action, guns blazing and explosions galore made Dempsey and Makepeace great viewing for the millions that tuned in. Being a 10 year old when Dempsey and Makepeace first aired, I was in my element, and my love of the show continues.

Dempsey and Makepeace (1984–86) is a British television crime drama made by London Weekend Television for ITV, created and produced by Ranald Graham. The leading roles were played by Michael Brandon and Glynis Barber, who later married each other on 18 November 1989.

Det Sgt Charles ‘Chas’ Jarvis

‘Who is this?!….”

Chief Superintendent Gordon Spikings, was the no nonsense leader of SI 10.

Constantly under pressure from the people above, Spikings didn’t have time for ‘Hello’s’ or ‘Goodbyes’ on the phone, so when he was on the street and in action, it was straight down the line!

No lover of Dempsey, although the longer Dempsey was in the UK, the more respect Spikings had for him.

What’s all the fuss?
